How to: Reaffirm Your Goals With a Vision Board

Vision boards are a fun and creative way to commit to, and reaffirm your goals in a non intimidating matter. One thing we all have in common is that we all desire certain things, whether its career advancement, financial goals, relationship improvements, or materialistic things like a new car.

What is a Vision Board?

A vision board is a visualization tool which refers to a board of any sort used to build a collage of words and pictures that represent your goals and dreams.

How will it help me?

Any theory about visualizing your goals (sports theory, the law of attraction, the desire map, or the harsh reality of Gary Vee lecturing) will tell you that in order to attract what you desire most. you must see it, feel it, and obsess over it. Just having one of those, lessens the effectiveness of the whole thing. Pictures alone wont do the trick, you’ve got to put in work as well.

  • Identify your vision and give it clarity.

  • Reinforce your daily affirmations.

  • Keep your attention on your intentions.

Vision boards don’t have to be just individual. I personally have one at home in my bedroom for myself, and one in the main office of my business. My business vision board doesn’t have any pretty pictures, but handwritten goals and mission statements for the entire team. Its a central piece that relates to all of us, and that every employee can feel like they contribute to.

How do I get started?

Sit down and get rid of all the noise around you, turn off the TV, put your phone away, and just focus on yourself for a few moments. Decide on what areas of your life are the most important to you, and how you would like for them to improve. Ask yourself some big questions, what does a good life mean to me, what makes me happy, how could I provide value, what do I want to accomplish? Such large goals can be extremely intimidating, and feel overwhelming. Break down the big questions into smaller ones. Ask yourself what activities do you want to learn? What are your career goals, how do you land that dream job, do you need an internship or perhaps continue your education in grad school? How can you find time for grad school? What are your relationship goals? What characteristics does your ideal partner have? What is the most likely place to find someone like that? Perhaps sign up for online dating? You can also focus on materialistic things, there is nothing wrong with that. Whether its a new house, car, watch, bag, whatever. Ask yourself how can you budget yourself to achieve those goals, be realistic. Take into consideration saving more, spending less on other wants or cutting expenses, and pick up extra shifts at work, or start a side hustle.

I know what I want, now what?

Now that you have an idea on what you want, get to work. Start decorating the board with whatever visuals you like, and that reflect your goals in the best way possible. Remember there are no rules, its your board, do whatever you please. One great tip is to write down goals, sign them, and post them up. It’ll be a huge factor in committing and holding yourself accountable.

You should hang your board somewhere where you’ll see it often, ideally somewhere near your bed so you see it daily. The more time you spend looking at it the more you affirm and commit to you goals. Take the first step in achieving your goals, I’d love to see what you come up with!

Remember, its all in your hands.
